BANGKOK, June 7 (Xinhua) — Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will discuss issues of insurgency as well as economic development of the Southern Thailand with his Malaysian counterpart during Abhisit’s scheduled one-day visit to the neighboring country on Monday, Thai News Agency reported.
During his official visit, Abhisit will meet Malaysian Prime minister Najib Razak and talk about the issue of the believed dual- nationality of some insurgents, who hold both Thai and Malaysian nationality and flee to their havens in the Malaysia after carrying out attacks.
Abhisit said they will also discuss economic cooperation as Thailand attempts to develop the five southern border provinces and meanwhile, Malaysia wants to develop its northern area bordering Thailand, too.
Development in the economically-depressed south is one of the government’s strategies to resolve the violence.
Several violent attacks took place in southern Thailand Sunday, killing two persons and injuring nearly 30 others.
