KUALA LUMPUR: Wait for an official announcement – that is what Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has to say on speculation Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will hand over the reins to him on April 3.
The Deputy Prime Minister said an official announcement about the handing over date would be issued by the Prime Minister’s Department in due time.
Najib also declined to state a time frame for him to take over the premiership, saying:
“Whatever it is, you have to wait for an official announcement,” before asking if the April 3 date was derived from blogs.
Najib was speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing of agreements resulting in Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (a government-owned company under the Minister of Finance Inc.) taking over water assets in Johor.
On whether Barisan Nasional has identified candidates for the Bukit Selambau, Bukit Gantang and Batang Ai by-elections to be held simultaneously on April 7, Najib said names were still being considered.
“Kena belek-belek (we have to choose carefully). We have to do some checks and inquiries first. That’s normal,” he said.
