Najib submits acceptance form for Umno president's post

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has filed his acceptance form for the Umno president’s post which he won uncontested ahead of the March party election.

This completes the formality for him to take over the helm of the party during the Umno general assembly next month.

His form was submitted to Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor by his political secretary Datuk Shafei Abdullah at Umno headquarters here yesterday.

Also present was Najib’s senior private secretary Datuk Abdul Aziz Kasim.

The submission of the form meant that Najib was accepting the nominations he received from Umno branches last year for the party president post.

Tengku Adnan told reporters that although Najib had won the post uncontested, he still had to submit the form to accept the nomination.

Tengku Adnan also said that Wanita Umno deputy chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil had accepted the nominations for the post of chief of the wing two days ago.

“She sent only one letter for the chief post and declined to contest for the deputy chief and the supreme council posts for which she received nominations,” he said.

With Shahrizat only accepting the nomination for the wing’s top post, Kuala Kangsar Wanita Umno chief Datuk Kamilia Ibrahim will take the deputy chief’s post uncontested.

A check on the Umno website at midnight showed that only 52 out of the 72 nominated had filed their acceptance forms for supreme council posts.

Among those who did not submit their acceptance forms were Mohd Tajol Rosli Mohd Ghazali from Gerik, Anifah Aman from Kimanis, Zambry Kadir from Lumut and Md Alwi Che Ahmad from Ketereh.

Datuk Seri Dr Jamaludin Jarjis did not send in his acceptance form for the vice-president’s post although he had enough nominations.

He submitted his acceptance form for a supreme council post.

Out of the 67 nominated for Wanita Umno committee posts, only 50 handed in their acceptance forms while only 64 from the 111 nominated for Umno Youth committee member posts filed their acceptance forms.

Only 53 out of the 75 nominated for Puteri Umno committee posts filed their forms by yesterday.

According to Tengku Adnan, those who did not filed their acceptance forms by midnight yesterday were deemed as not contesting the respective posts.
