KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today officially opened the RM320 million Menara 1 Bukit Aman, the new headquarters building of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), symbolising modernisation and transformation within the force.

The Prime Minister and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, arrived at Bukit Aman, here, at 9.30am and were welcomed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar, Deputy IGP Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar and senior police officers.

Also present were Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusuf, Home Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Mahmood Adam and Armed Forces Chief Tan Sri Jeneral Zulkifeli Mohd Zin.

Menara 1 is now Bukit Aman police headquarters’ new administrative centre, replacing the old building near the tower.

Its construction began on March 3, 2005 at the original parking lot in Bukit Aman on 1.4 hectares of land.

The Public Works Department was responsible for the design of the 31-storey building with an area of 85,000 sq metres and was fully completed by April 21, 2010.

The tower was built to replace the Logistics Department Complex which was housed in a semi-permanent wooden structure, and relocating the Internal Security and Public Order Department which shared a building with the Special Branch in Complex 3.

The move also involves the offices of both the IGP and Deputy IGP at Menara 2.

Meanwhile, the Administration Department, Criminal Investigation Department and Narcotics Crime Investigation Department remain at Menara 2, while the Special Branch is maintained at Bukit Aman’s Complex 3.
