KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (Bernama) — The Barisan Nasional government is to develop many more 1Malaysia products and services for the people to show that the concept is not purely philosophical, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Tuesday.
He said the people appreciated the government’s contributions and have expressed this through various media.
“We can list them (the services provided) — 1Malaysia clinics, 1Malaysia shops, 1Malaysia menu, 1Malaysia aid,” he said at the presentation of Astro decoders to people of the low-income group under the “njoi” (enjoy) package at the Cochrane Perkasa public housing scheme, here.
Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin and Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang were also present at the event.
Touching on the distribution of the Astro decoders, Najib said: “We will have many more of such products. Let’s use the service for our own benefit so that Malaysians can be entertained and update themselves on information as well.”
Najib pointed out that the world is in favour of those with access to information.
“Any group of people marginalised from access to real-time information is in a disadvantaged position and will fail to compete in today’s world,” he said.
“The prime minister said the government did not want underprivileged people to be denied access to information, and added that the “njoi” package was designed to provide knowledge, entertainment and education to 50,000 households, including in Sabah and Sarawak.
Najib said he was most impressed with the Astro package because among the 37 radio and television channels were those devoted to education, particularly for school children.
