PUTRAJAYA, Oct 23 (Bernama) — Despite Manchester United’s (MU) defeat of 1-6 to Manchester City, 300 Facebook and Twitter followers of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who are mostly fans of the reigning BPL champions, are still delighted to have watched the match with the prime minister at Seri Perdana, here.
Nurul Asyikin Ismail from Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, said win or lose was not the issue but what was important to her was having the chance to watch the Barclays Premier League (BPL) match with the prime minister.
“I did not expect to be chosen (to watch the match at Seri Perdana), but I’m very happy to get up close with the prime minister whom I admire as a leader,” she said after watching the match.
The 28-year-old also praised the prime minister’s noble gesture as it could bring the people and their national leader closer together.
Mohd Salahuddin Zainal Abidin, 29, said Najib’s choosing to watch the football match with the public showed him to be a people-oriented leader.
“The prime minister must do this more often and if can, do it at an open space so that more people can join in,” he added.
Nagaratinam, 19, from Kuala Lumpur, who closely follows the prime minister’s tweets on Twitter, said although his favourite club MU lost badly, he was still happy to have watched the match with the prime minister, an ardent fan of the club.
“If possible, after this the prime minister should watch a football match on the big screen at Dataran Merdeka with the public,” he said.
The 300 of Najib’s Facebook and Twitter followers were picked at random from among 2,500 applications received within 24 hours to watch the match with him.
