MELAKA, Feb 25 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, citing Barisan Nasional-led Melaka as an example, said it would facilitate administration and reduce problems if both the federal and state governments are from the same party (the BN).
“In Melaka, we are not managing a failed state but a successful state. We’re managing success. The reported traffic congestion is probably due to the many tourists who visit Melaka, which is world-renowned.
“The state government has applied for more projects. That’s the benefit of the federal and state governments being of the same party (the BN),” he said at a dinner with the people in Malim Jaya here.
Also present were Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
Najib said trust cannot be placed in those who give preference to political position rather than the interests of the people and nation.
The prime minister cited the example of the water and other issues in Selangor, which is administered by the opposition.
“If the water issue remains unresolved, the Klang Valley will face a water shortage because they give preference to politics rather than the people’s problems,” he said.
Najib criticised opposition leaders who he said often made differing statements depending on their audience.
The prime minister praised the people of Melaka for their support for the 1Malaysia concept, saying the spirit was reflected strongly at the places he went during his one-day visit to the state.
