KEPALA BATAS, Sept 18 (Bernama) – Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has supported a proposal that those aspiring to positions of authority undergo the ‘1Malaysia test’.
He said the proposal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would ensure that Malaysians were free of racial sentiments.
“I believe that it will make the people live peacefully and happily as they do not have a racist attitude,” he said after hosting an Aidilfitri open house here Saturday.
Abdullah said it was important for Malaysians to practice the 1Malaysia concept by not going overboard on sensitives issues affecting race and religion.
“I am confident that the ‘1Malaysia test’ can avert unwanted incidents like racial conflicts.”
He said Malaysia’s success and progress was due to cooperation of all races and that the people should hold on to the Constitution and Rukun Negara.
“We must appreciate the good derived from close racial ties as it is unique to Malaysia,” he added.
