Moderation and respect are the key values

IF I may add a few words to your editorial on Sept 2 “Affirm core values, be open to new ways”.

We have to support the voices of moderation if Malaysia, let alone 1Malaysia is to succeed.

I believe we must stick to the Malaysian way of life where diversity and moderation are valued and racial sentiments subdued, as otherwise, much of what we have built can be demolished and this we cannot allow.

Therefore, as said by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in his Merdeka Day speech, “We should value the prevailing peace, harmony and stability in the country.”

There is no other way so let us all work at it.

He also emphasised that the real challenge for Malaysians today is to transform the country into a developed and high-income nation by 2020.

Let us all cooperate to build a better future for all.

This we can do by realising the 1Malaysia concept, following the Rukunegara spirit, upholding the Constitution and also respecting each other.

In diversity we can live and prosper.

And I concur with the PM when he says, “This is the place where we were born, the place where we grew up, where we find our livelihood, a place where we find happiness and where we shall be laid to rest.”

He is spot on.

It is now for all Malaysians to renew their commitment and strengthen their resolve to make Malaysia even better, more united and prosperous.

We should be fair to all others, assist and help them whenever the need arises.

BULBIR SINGH,

Seremban.
