KUCHING, Feb 13 (Bernama) — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has promised the minority bumiputera communities that they will not be marginalised in the nation’s march towards development.

He said that although the progress and development of these communties had not been monitored, their views would always be taken into account in the drawing-up of policies of the country.

“Their achievements have not been monitored and they feel that their views and inputs should be taken into consideration in government policies,” he told reporters after meeting the executive committee of the Sarawak Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today.

Najib, who is expected to become the Prime Minister in just a month, is on a three-day visit to Sarawak which ends today.

At the meeting this morning, he said the Dayak community business leaders had brought up several matters which required the attention of the federal and state governments.

“They are looking at certain sectors like tourism and agro-based industries. The meeting was cordial and useful. All their feedback will be included in the mini-budget,” said Najib, who is also Finance Minister.

The government tabled a RM7 billion economic stimulus package on Nov last year to cushion the impact of the global economic slowdown.

However, this was deemed insufficient, thus the mini-budget, which will be tabled at the Dewan Rakyat on March 10.
