KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will strengthen its partnership with Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s new leadership to protect the right of every Malaysian to be treated with equal concern and respect, party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said.

“I believe Najib’s leadership will guide Barisan Nasional. Najib is able to see the larger picture beyond the internal party political cocoon that ultimately it is about working together as a team to serve the people,” he said in his congratulatory message.

Party vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said there was a need to strengthen the Government and increase efficiency in the implementation of policies.

“We will do the necessary changes and under Najib’s 1Malaysia concept, policies will be more open with equal participation from all races,” he said, adding that he was confident that Najib’s leadership would bring success to the nation.

“At the moment, the people want the economic situation to be addressed so that it would be strong again. They have high expectations as this matter is close to their hearts and affects their livelihood,” he said.

MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said plenty of hopes were pinned on the new Prime Minister.

“He is taking over a country that is facing a very challenging time. He will need the most support, most creative ideas and determination to deliver not only to recover from the March 8 general election but also the economic crisis.

“With the Barisan and everyone behind him, he will be able to do that,” she said.

Wanita MCA chairman Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said Najib would be able to bring the country to greater heights.

“He is an experienced leader and politician. The country has placed high hopes on him,” she said.

MCA spokesman Lee Wai Kiat praised the “1Malaysia” concept mooted by Najib which was themed on national unity and recognising the contributions of Malaysians of all races.

“Najib has clearly set his aspirations on improving race relations to ensure that Malaysians forge friendships based on trust and mutual respect.

MCA deputy secretary-general Datuk Loke Yuen Yow urged Najib to create a post for a Chinese deputy prime minister as well as a Chinese Barisan Nasional deputy chairman.

He suggested that Ong be appointed to the said portfolios.
