KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) – New Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak says he is freeing 13 people being held under a law that allows indefinite detention.
Najib says he is also lifting a ban on two opposition newspapers imposed recently. Najib made the announcements in a national television broadcast Friday hours after taking office.
He did not identify the 13 people, but some of those being held under the Internal Security Act are political dissidents.
Najib says he will conduct a «comprehensive review» of the law, which has been severely criticized by the opposition and human rights groups.
