Malaysians Overseas Show Patriotism, Says Najib

PUTRAJAYA, 3 Feb (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak held a teleconference with Malaysians overseas Thursday in conjunction with Chinese New Year, and praised them for their patriotism.

The Prime Minister said that he felt proud that students and other Malaysians of the various races abroad had shown patriotism.

Although far from home, they remained loyal to the country and upheld its constitution and laws, he said at the teleconference with Malaysian students, professionals and heads of mission in seven foreign cities.

The teleconference between Seri Perdana and Vancouver, Los Angeles, Seoul, Guangzhou, Warsaw, Perth and Abu Dhabi was also attended by the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister in the PM’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

Najib said:”I hoped this spirit (of patriotism) will be our bond, our bond of 1Malaysia, 1People, 1Nation and 1Direction.”

The Prime Minister hoped that Malaysians overseas could celebrate the Chinese New Year in the spirit of muhibah and 1Malaysia.

The heads of mission, students and professionals who had a chance to speak in the 40-minute teleconference all said that they felt lucky to be able to talk to the Prime Minister.

Rosmah told the students to study hard and then return home to serve the country.

The ministers present wished the same of the students and urged them to always promote the country.
