The concrete husks that dot the landscape of Kuala Lumpur are ever-present reminders of the Asian financial crisis a decade ago. But the fear stalking Malaysiaâ€™s capital now is that they might be joined by a fresh batch of half-finished skeletons as the global financial crisis bites.
To combat the danger, Najib Razak, the finance minister, on Tuesday introduced a $16bn fiscal stimulus that must succeed if the government, led by the United National Malays Organisation, is to avoid giving further ground to the countryâ€™s resurgent opposition parties.
