Malaysia Committed in Advancing Digital Economy

In Malaysia’s commitment to advancing the digital economy, the Government is considering appointing a chief data scientist to spearhead Malaysia’s development in data-driven economy and in view of the rapid deployment of MSC Malaysia. I believe that advancing the Malaysian digital economy is a path we must take and a challenge must enthusiastically embrace in moving country rapidly towards achieving Vision 2020.

On the same note, in order to overcome the skill gap in terms of data scientists available in the country, I have decided to direct the scholarship agencies such as Public Service Department (JPA), Education Ministry and Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to provide the scholarships. This Government initiative will enable Malaysians to train as data scientists for their first degree, Master’s degree and PhD to overcome the skill gap.
