KUALA LUMPUR, March 10, 2009 (AFP) – Malaysia’s government on Tuesday unveiled a stimulus package worth 60 billion ringgit (16.2 billion dollars) as it attempts to arrest the export-driven economy’s slide into recession.
“I am pleased to announce that the government will implement a stimulus package totalling 60 million ringgit,” deputy premier and finance minister Najib Razak told parliament.
“The package will be implemented over two years — 2009 and 2010,” he said. “The implementation of such a large stimulus package is unprecedented in the nation’s economic history.”
