KOTA KINABALU, Sept 27 (Bernama) — The Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) has a definite role to play to achieve the objectives of the national Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Taking note that one of the main aims of the ETP is to raise the per capita income of Malaysian workers, State Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah said KKIP should stay focussed on facilitating industrial action in order to provide better jobs.

“The biggest achievement of KKIP is that it is identified with manufacturing activities,” he told the management and staff of KKIP at their monthly gathering, here today.

Tan said the national agenda was to maintain economic growth at five per cent each year until the Vision 2020 is achieved.

In this, KKIP has an important role to play, as through the manufacturing sector, investments are made, industries are built and better paid jobs created and if KKIP does this, it is in right direction, he said.

Tan, who is also Chairman of the KKIP Board of Directors, encouraged the KKIP personnel to keep abreast with the latest developments in the nation and the state by reading business and economic news so that they would be fully aware of the economic environment and challenges.

“Business news is important for each one of us. It is for us to know what’s happening not only in Sabah but the whole nation.

“If you are getting yourselves the latest information then you would learn, for instance, that the Prime Minister is working so hard to make changes,” he added.

Tan also brought to the attention of the KKIP personnel the recent announcement by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman that the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) has so far attracted private investments to the tune of RM57 billion to the state.

From this, about RM26 billion or 45.6 per cent were for manufacturing, oil and gas and energy, he said, urging KKIP to play its role effectively in facilitating industrial movements based on improved manufacturing.
