SHAH ALAM:The Selangor government has expressed the hope that the new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s administrationwill be fair and professional.
Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said any policy or decision made by Najib should not be influenced by political differences either at the state or federal level.
“Personally, I believe Datuk Seri Najib is starting off on the right footing, carrying with him his late father Tun Abdul Razak Hussein’s legacy,” Khalid said in a statement.
He described Abdul Razak, Malaysia’s second prime minister, as a leader who had done a lot of good deeds to the country. “In the economic aspect, we believe that Najib’s most important task will be to manage the economy and ensure that the country is able to weather the economic slowdown and spur growth,” he said.
Meanwhile DAP chairman Karpal Singh said the new prime minister should work towards gaining the confidence of the people. To begin with, he said Najib should direct his attention to effectively guide the country through the current global economic downturn. Karpal also urged Najib to consider releasing Internal Security Act detainees, curb corrupt practices and take steps to restore the independence of the judiciary. (Bernama)
