Kuala Lumpur, Apr 15 (PTI) In the wake of demands from ethnic Indian and Chinese parties for greater representation in the Malaysian cabinet, new Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak today said they were free to express their views, but his decision will rein supreme in the matter.
Najib said the coalition partners — Malaysian Indian Congress and Malaysian Chinese Association — were free to air their views on the issue.
“But, I am the one who will decide,” he said.
The MCA has asked for the post of the second deputy premier, while MIC has demanded greater representation in the cabinet.
Currently, MIC’s S Subramanian has been reappointed as the Human Resource Development Minister. The party has other two representatives — M Sarvanan and K Devamani — as deputy ministers in Najib’s new cabinet.
Indians constitute 8 per cent while ethnic Chinese form 33 per cent of the total Malaysian population.
