KUANTAN, May 12 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today reminded Malaysians to have respect and high regard for the law.
They should not damage public property and assault members of the security forces, he said, adding that policemen and soldiers were also normal human beings who had families and children.
“We have been reminded by Allah (God) not to cause damage on earth, and we know that policemen and soldiers are also normal human beings with children and families.
“If we injure them, what will be the feelings of their children and families? Those who assault the security forces seem to forget that they are also Malaysians,” he said at a luncheon and presentation of donations by the Rahah Foundation in conjunction with a charity golf tournament in his Pekan parliamentary constituency, at the Batu 10 Camp of the 4th Mechanised Brigade, here.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and 4th Mechanised Brigade commander Datuk Abdul Rahim Abdul Mutalib.
Najib reiterated that gatherings can be organised on condition that they are held peacefully without any untoward incidents.
“For example, last night, 100,000 people attended the launch of Umno’s 66th anniversary celebrations at (the) Bukit Jalil (National Stadium). Such a large gathering can take place in peace and in a disciplined manner without any untoward incidents,” he said.
At today’s event, Najib approved an allocation of RM3 million to build a community centre at the camp, with RM1 million being provided this year and RM2 million next year.
The centre, he said, would be used for the daily activities of the estimated 5,000 family members of the security forces at the camp and at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) camp in Kuantan, and would have, among others, a shopping mall, gymnasium, cyber cafe and cafetaria.
Najib also presented donations from the Rahah Foundation to about 300 people, comprising students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Mahkota and Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Wira, Kuantan, suraus and Sekolah Agama Rakyat and the Pahang Orphans Welfare Association.
