BLOEMFONTEIN (SOUTH AFRICA), Jan 9 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the sacking of Selangor executive councillor Datuk Dr Hasan Mohamed Ali from PAS is an internal matter of the party and has nothing to do with Umno.
Najib, who is Umno president, described Hasan’s sacking as having a correlation with PAS policies as well as the future directions of the party.
“It seems that there are huge differences of opinion with respect to PAS future directions…we see this as PAS’ internal matters,” he told Malaysian journalists here who are covering his two-day visit to South Africa which ended Sunday.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang announced Hasan’s sacking yesterday, effective immediately.
Hadi said the decision was made at PAS central working committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur yesterday based on Clause 82(9).
Hasan is Chairman of Selangor Islamic Affairs, Malay Customs, Infrastructure and Public Amenities Committee.
Asked about opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that the opposition was confident of winning more seats at 13th general election and capturing Putrajaya, he said it was a psychological campaign and not new.
Najib said just like a game of football or badminton, the players would express confidence to overcome their opponents.
“So it is not something strange if the opposition claims that it has the advantage and can conquer some states and so on.
“In fact, after the general election in 2008, he claimed that on Sept 16 that year, he will form the government but we know it was baseless.”
He said the opposition was running a psychological campaign that was not alien to the government and this was expected of them.
“However, we can’t take things lightly during the general election. Barisan Nasional has to increase preparedness in all aspects so that we can win big as expected,” he added.
