KUALA LUMPUR: The Government is looking at making land available and providing funds to developers participating in Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PrIMa) or the 1Malaysia people’s housing project.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that these were the mechanisms being considered to ensure affordable quality homes within the Klang Valley for the people, in particular youth.

“One way is for the Government to consider giving facilitation funds or make land available for the public-private partnerships,” he said when launching the Barisan Nasional Youth Home Owner Programme at Putra World Trade Centre here yesterday.

He said that the affordable home project in the Klang Valley forms part of the Barisan Nasional-led Government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of the people.

“I am confident that the project will be a success,” he said, adding that a quota is likely to be set aside, especially for youths who are seeking affordable homes here.

The project was announced by Najib in June where housing would be developed on a piece of land at the Sungai Besi airbase in Kuala Lumpur.

The project provides affordable quality homes costing below RM220,000 and companies like Sime Darby, SP Setia and Putrajaya Corporation have been invited to participate.

Barisan Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said it was time for members to go beyond rhetoric and put into action the transformation programmes announced by the Government.

He said that those in Barisan should take effective measures to help resolve the people’s woes instead of leaving it to the Government.

Meanwhile, Najib said he was deeply touched and thankful for the good wishes and digital cards he received on his birthday.

Najib, who turned 58 on July 23, said this made him more determined to do his best for the people and country.

“Thank you to all. I am touched by the creative digital cards and messages of prayer, hope, goodness and success for the country,” he said at the prize-giving ceremony for winners of the Prime Minister’s Birthday Greeting contest at his home here yesterday.
