PUTRAJAYA: The One Million Youth Gathering here is set to become one of the Government’s major initiatives in engaging young Malaysians.
Although no headcount was conducted to see if there were one million youth at the three-day gathering, officials at the Youth and Sports Ministry were motivated with the enthusiasm showed.
One senior official said they were more determined to ensure all programmes and initiatives involving the youth achieved the objectives.
“We are getting closer to each other now.
“Obviously, they like this sort of interaction initiative,” said the official who requested anonymity.
The official said the Government now had to play its role in ensuring the continuity of the interaction.
Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek expressed his satisfaction with the turnout and spirit showed by the youths.
“It is a Government initiative for them to have more interaction, not just among themselves but also with the various departments and agencies.
“They fully understand the objectives of the initiative and its benefits and that is why they came from all over the country to support the gathering,” he said.
Ahmad Shabery said the ministry would immediately begin work for next year’s gathering, which would be larger as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had set a target of two million participants.
He said the gathering would need to be more comprehensive with programmes and events that would meet the aspirations of young Malaysians.
