KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 18 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants every programme and activity planned for youths to be based on their own aspirations.

The Prime Minister said that young people will be difficult to approach if what they want for themselves is ignored.

“Do not think that they will like what we like and dislike what we dislike,” he said when launching the Terengganu Motoring Club 2010 at the Sultan Mirzan Zainal Abidin Stadium at Gong Badak here.

Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek were also present at the gathering of 48,000 youths, 16,000 of them with motorcycles.

The function was to caution them against illegal racing while encouraging them to develop their talent on a proper circuit.

Najib said that times had changed and the approaches to youths used in the 60s and 70s were no longer applicable.

He said that people should stop labeling youth motorcyclists as “road thugs.”

“It may be that the {motorcycling) culture came about because the youths were bored with staying at home. We should direct this towards good conduct so that they heed the law, refrain from dangerous driving, and so on,” he said.

He added that a racing circuit would allow youths to race the right way.
