KUALA KLAWANG, Jan 23 (Bernama) — The 1Malaysia concept inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is accentuated through the organising of open houses for numerous celebrations in the country.

Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim said every time an open house for a celebration was held it would always be attended by the multi-racial society.

“The Christmas open house which was held in Kajang, Selangor last year succeeded in attracting 30,000 from numerous communities.

“As Malaysians, we are rich with culture, and as such, we must respect all celebrations and invite our friends from the other communities to commemorate open house celebrations together,” he said in his speech at a Chinese New Year celebration at Pekan Pertang, near here, Sunday.

Therefore, he said the 2012 Chinese New Year open house celebration which would be held in Sitiawan, Perak on Jan 28 would also bring out the 1Malaysia spirit.

In his speech, Rais also urged all Barisan Nasional committees at divisions and branches including village heads to identify and list those who were qualified for the RM500 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) in the districts.

He said this was to ensure those qualified were not overlooked.

“Currently, around 8,600 households with an income of below RM3,000 each have received the aid but we want to increase the number as there are many more households earning below RM3,000,” he said.
