KUALA LUMPUR: Felda youth are going on a cyber offensive to fight lies spread about the settlements and settlers.
Each of the 54 Felda settlements nationwide now has a cybercafe where the settlers, especially the young, can get news about Felda.
The Malaysian Felda Youth Council has launched a blog (www.blog.mbfm.org) which will be used by its members to post comments.
Council president Datuk Ramli Ismail said their secretariat would monitor the blog.
He was speaking at the launch of the blog at Dewan Perdana Felda here yesterday.
The launch of the blog comes just days after a book, Felda Dulu Tolong, Sekarang Along, was released.
The book condemns Felda settlements.
“We know who the writers are. They are doing this because they were not given any positions in the (Felda youth) committee,” said Ramli.
He said a police report would be lodged and a court injunction may be sought to stop the distribution of the book.
About 500 Felda youth took part in burning copies of the book to show their disgust.
Felda chairman Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yusof Noor said the blog was a great way for Felda youth to come up with suggestions and to channel the right information to the public.
Yusof said settlers were looking forward to Datuk Seri Najib Razak becoming prime minister next month.
“The last time we had a prime minister overseeing our affairs was his father, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein (the nation’s second prime minister).
“I was told by Najib that he would keep Felda in his portfolio even after he becomes prime minister,” Yusof said, adding that Najib had been overseeing the Felda portfolio since 2002.
