IPOH, Aug 27 (Bernama) — Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said today that the establishment of the RM2 billion facilitation fund is aimed at enabling Bumiputera companies to be independent.

He said the decision which was made at the meeting of the Bumiputera Agenda Action Council is also to ensure they no longer looked to the government for support.

“The fund can used to strengthen the market, asset and equity of Bumiputera companies in competing globally,” he added.

He was speaking to reporters after handing over cash advances under the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) to 103 recipients at the Kampong Manjoi Multipurpose Hall here.

Ahmad Husni, who is also the Tambun Member of Parliament said Bumiputera entrepreneurs, are urged to use the opportunity fully to empower their companies.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced yesterday the establishment of the fund for eligible Bumiputera companies through the Bumiputera Agenda Coordinating Unit (Teraju).

The establishment of the fund is the result of the joint efforts of Teraju and the Public Private Partnership Unit to provide support for Private Funded Initiatives (PFI) of Bumiputeras.

The fund will also be a catalyst for Bumiputera companies to carry out big projects with a minimum qualifying project investment value of RM20 million.

It is also hoped that the impact of the investment value will bring benefits for Bumiputera start-up companies.
