KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) — European countries acknowledge and laud Malaysia’s intention to transform itself into a high-income economy, says Ambassador & Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Malaysia, Vincent Piket.
He said Malaysia will be remembered as a country which transformed its economy at a time when other nations were trying to save theirs and restrict public as well as private spending.
He also said countries in the EU were in awe of Malaysia’s transformation policies, especially the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).
“The ETP has received an impressive, positive response among nations in the EU, due to several important reasons.
“Most importantly, the ETP is very concrete in all respects. The investment, the commitment, spending, actions and measures are all very positive and this will directly increase the amount of trustworthiness of the programme in trying to attract foreign direct investment (FDI),” he said at a forum held in conjunction with the ninth update of the ETP, here today.
Piket said Malaysia, through all its transformation programmes, has a more logical approach towards foreign markets.
“I can conclude that the ETP and GTP and other transformation programmes are ambitious and with a positive approach, are on the right path, during this uncertain financial environment,” he added.
