PETALING JAYA: Millions of Malaysians who will be flocking back to their hometowns for the Hari Raya celebration have been told to drive safely and not turn the country’s roads into “rivers of death”.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak advised motorists to exercise extra caution and care on the road, especially during the festive period.
Some 1.4 million vehicles are expected to use the PLUS highways alone daily during the “balik kampung” rush.
In other developments:
- Police have identified 133 killer stretches in the country during Ops Sikap 22 with Johor and Perak having the highest number of dangerous stretches.
- The Road Transport Department has advised motorists to take photographs of errant drivers and forward them to firstname.lastname@example.org for action to be taken.
- Gory images of road accident will be used by the Road Safety Department to drive home the message that speed kills.
