LONDON, May 15 (Bernama) — DAP stalwart Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim’s resignation from the party showed that DAP does not condone dissent from its members despite claiming to be democratic, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today.
The prime minister said although he did not know Tunku Abdul Aziz personally, he believed the former DAP vice-president was “a highly principled man”.
“In the end, Tunku Abdul Aziz chose his self-dignity because he is a man of principle,” he told Malaysian journalists here Tuesday.
Najib said Tunku Abdul Aziz had a different view on the street demonstration, believing it can bring about chaos and damage to property.
“But, its seems DAP has no room for dissent in a party which claims to be a democratic party,” he added.
Yesterday Tunku Abdul Aziz announced that he was quitting DAP and relinquishing the vice-president’s post in the party, as he did not have a choice.
He was appointed to the post soon after joining DAP in 2008.
