The Chinese New Year, the year of the Tiger, is upon us. And as has been the tradition for centuries, Malaysians of Chinese descent will strengthen family ties with the reunion dinner, pay homage to the senior citizens and renew friendships.
Open houses will be held to mark the beginning of the lunar New Year and in keeping with the 1Malaysia spirit, I encourage every Malaysian to join in the celebrations, visit your Chinese friends and be part of the festivities to mark this auspicious day with your fellow citizens.
The Chinese New Year symbolises a new beginning for the Chinese community. This is an opportunity for all of us, not just the Chinese, to reflect on personal achievements, shortcomings and challenges and resolve to become better individuals and better Malaysians in the year ahead. In the year of the Tiger we must look ahead with greater optimism and resolve to build a stronger and more dynamic 1Malaysia.
The Tiger in the Chinese zodiac symbolises courage, optimism and dynamism. Those born in the year of the Tiger are natural leaders, brave, strong and daring.
We must be bold and more courageous in getting to know our neighbours better and be more dynamic and committed in the workplace, so as to contribute to the betterment of society and the country.
I wish all Malaysians, especially the Chinese community, a happy Chinese New Year.
May the coming months bring greater unity and prosperity to all.
