KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) — The annual grant for the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) will be raised to RM2 million beginning next year, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Najib also announced an allocation of RM1 million as a one-off payment for the congress to repair its headquarters which was said to be in a dilapidated state.
The government had earlier raised the quantum of the annual grant to the congress from RM350,000 in 2009 to RM1 million this year.
The spontaneous response from Najib was to reciprocate the ‘allegorical’ speech by the Cuepacs president, Omar Osman, which among others hinted that the government should consider an allocation for the repair of the Cuepacs headquarters.
At the same function, Najib also witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the formation of the ‘Konsortium Pengendali Takaful Cuepacs’ with Dar Al Istithmar Sdn Bhd and five other companies handling Takaful, namely Takaful Malaysia, Takaful Ikhlas, Etiqa Takaful, HLTM Takaful and MAA Takaful.
The formation of the consortium aimed to assist civil servants in getting an affordable protection scheme but at the same time, sufficient to provide a fund in case a disaster occurred.
The Takaful Kasih 1 Cuepacs is among the initial schemes launched and was ready for participation by civil servants.
Commenting on the matter, Omar said the formation of Konsortium Pengendali Takaful under the Cuepacs was also an effort to assist civil servants to save and plan their finances.
