Chinese New Year Open House Lively With 20,000 People Present

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 24 (Bernama) — More than 20,000 people attended the Open House organised by the state Barisan Nasional (BN) at the Tanjung Marina Bay, here to celebrate the Chinese New Year (CNY).

The Open House, which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, was held in a lively atmosphere and participated by the people of various races.

The Prime Minister was greeted on arrival by lion and dragon dancers and a beating of the drums while the people cheered 1Malaysia. Najib later joined the BN leaders in mixing the ‘Yee Sang’.

Also joining the dignitaries in mixing the ‘Yee Sang’ was Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

In his speech, the Prime Minister said he had not expected such a large crowd to be present.

“The celebration was very lively and the large number of people present are celebrating the Chinese New Year in a happy mood,” he said.

The event which began at 5pm and ended at 7pm was also attended by PPP national president Datuk Seri M. Kayveas, and Penang MIC chairman Datuk P.K Subbaiyah.

Before leaving the function, the Prime Minister and his wife as well as the BN leaders joined the ‘Satu Hati’ choir in singing two songs, ‘1 Malaysia’ and ‘Rasa Sayang’.
