HULU SELANGOR, May 9 (Bernama) — Thirteen-year-old boy cancer patient Hanif Zolkeflee’s wish came true when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak contacted him via Twitter and the phone.

As the Twitter connection was disrupted due to bad weather, Najib personally called Hanif on the phone.

The phone conversation, which lasted for 10 minutes, was arranged by Member of Parliament for Hulu Selangor P. Kamalanathan at the Hulu Selangor MP Service Centre here and heard by about 50 guests through a loudspeaker.

Hanif, who was diagnosed with third stage bone cancer on Sept 27 last year, was initially nervous but eventually gained his composure and posted nine questions, which were answered by Najib, who also cracked a joke.

“The prime minister is quite funny and caring. He is not fierce as I had thought. Before the conversion I was scared as he is said to be firm. But he is an affable person,” said Hanif after the phone conversation.

Responding to a question on his aspirations on the national soccer team, Najib said he wanted the team to forge ahead and make the AFF Suzuki Cup’s victory a stepping stone for greater heights.

On the 1Malaysia concept, he said it was an effort to bring the people together and build a stronger nation in efforts to compete globally.

Najib said his favourite food included tempoyak ikan patin from Sungai Jelai, Pahang which was not polluted while his ambition before was to become a corporate member and a football player.

On his memorable moments as the prime minister, he said, “Every time when we won the by-elections it conjured sweet memories, including winning the Hulu Selangor seat as we endured a tough fight.”

When asked by Hanif whether he planned to visit Hulu Selangor, Najib said he would do so as he heard of Kamalanathan’s accomplishments.

Najib ended the conversation by praying for the recovery of the teenager.

Hanif, who was accompanied by his father, Zolkeflee Zakaria and mother, Salisah Ibrahim, both 44, and his brother, Hafiz, 10, expressed his wish to meet and greet the prime minister.

Thanking the prime minister for availing himself, Kamalanathan said he would assist Hanif in meeting Najib.

Zolkeflee was overwhelmed with the occasion while Salisah described it as a meaningful mother’s day gift for her.
