PASIR PUTEH: About 150 taxi drivers here are expected to relay their plight to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who will be here for a visit.
They said they would be evicted from their taxi stand in March.
“Apparently, the area had been earmarked for a commercial project and a piece of land adjoining the taxi stand had been sold to a developer for RM150,000,
“We offered to buy the taxi stand for RM100,000 but until now we have had no reply from the State Economic Development Corpo-ration,” Pasir Puteh Taxi and Car Hire Association chairman Abdul Rahman Samad said here yesterday.
Association members, he said, had been paying RM75 rent for the 349 sq ft site.
Abdul Rahman claimed the state government had not offered them an alternative area.
Taxi driver Mat Hassan Harun, 60, said the location of the taxi stand was very strategic as it was convenient for passengers to return to Jertih, Jelor and Semerak.
Najib is expected to visit the taxi stand during a walkabout today.
