KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) — The government is able to disburse the RM500 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) due to the strength of the domestic economy, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
He said the scheme was also the result of the government’s efficiency in managing the country.
“Last year the country registered more than 5 per cent in growth while the growth in private investment within and from abroad is expected to be more than the target, reaching RM93 billion,” he said when addressing a luncheon with the people and handing over of BR1M assistance at Flat Sri Johor, in Bandar Tun Razak, here.
Present were Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin and PPP president Datuk Seri Dr M. Kayveas.
Over 500 people received the BR1M at the event.
Najib said upcoming projects such as the MY Rapid Transit and the River of Life, were crucial to spurring the country’s economy.
“These are important projects which we cannot give to the people if there has been no increase in the government’s revenue. When the economy grow, the government’s revenue will also grow.
“We will then able to give back to the people and need not increase taxes,” he said.
He called on Bandar Tun Razak electors to ensure the BN regain its mandate in the constituency in the coming general election to ensure continuous development in the area.
