KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 (Bernama) — Malaysians should continue to appreciate and nurture the unique strength in the country’s diversity of culture in the spirit of 1Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
The Prime Minister said that Thaipusam celebration in Malaysia has become an international affair, as he observed in his visit to Batu Caves during the festival last year.
“Hindu devotees from overseas as well as tourists come here to appreciate the wonderful diversity of our culture and the openness in which many different faiths are expressed and practiced.
“As Malaysians, we must continue to appreciate and nurture this unique strength in the true spirit of 1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now,” he said when wishing Malaysian Hindus a Happy Thaipusam in his blog www.1malaysia.com.my
Najib said he was looking forward to meeting many Malaysian Hindus faith at the Subramaniam Swami Devastanam temple in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Thursday after witnessing the cultural phenomenon at Batu Caves earlier in the day.
“Thursday, Hindus across the globe are celebrating Thaipusam. Most Malaysian Hindus will be at Batu Caves and other Hindu temples giving thanks and fulfilling vows to the Hindu god Lord Murugan.
“Already, thousands have flocked to Batu Caves since earlier this week, with more than a million expected to make the pilgrimage this year,” he said.
