ALOR SETAR, July 28 (Bernama) — The 530 per cent jump in foreign investment in the country last year compared to 2009 indicates that the government has good plans to develop the country, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

The prime minister said the drastic rise was among the highest increases in investments in the world.

“In Kedah, only the Kulim Hi-Tech Park was the beneficiary, but if the government were to change hands (to the Barisan Nasional) many places will benefit from the investment,” he said at the 1Malaysia youth gathering at the Pendang mini stadium near here. Kedah is currently administered by a PAS-led government.

Najib said the federal government would make available 3.3 million jobs under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) over the next 10 years.

“Youths will have jobs when they graduate from institutions of higher learning because we can provide jobs through proper planning and not just use slogans or rhetoric,” he said.

Najib said the national development efforts of the government had been effective because even the children of poor farmers had been able to achieve success.

“It is for this reason that many foreigners are coming to work in the country. Many jobs have been created through the government’s efforts.

“Many other countries are in a state of chaos, with unemployment reaching 30 per cent,” he said.
