KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) — The 1Malaysia Social Media Convention has suggested the setting up of an Information Bank to facilitate making fast references, information sharing and getting legitimate information on issues.
Its chairman, Datuk Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin said an Information Bank could help the public get information quickly and accurately when the information was centralised.
“We want to set up a place for references, in relation to certain matters and issues, which is easily accessible and fast for the public.
“Despite the fact that every ministry has its own website, we want to coordinate the information on one platform using the social media so that it could be spread to the public,” he told reporters after the launching of the convention at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Sunday.
Mohd Sharkar said the proposal for the setting up of the Information Bank was among 10 points in a resolution which was read to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the ceremony. The resolution also suggested that a structured direction and communication plan be formulated and coordinated well so that information and issues could be clarified, while a secretariat be set up to manage the Information Bank.
The resolution also urged the top leadership in Barisan Nasional to consider active participation in the social media as a condition of a winnable candidate in the general election.
Mohd Skarkar said leaders must be aware and smart in using the platform as a means of approaching the people quickly.
Commenting further on the convention, Mohd Sharkar hoped the session could be continued in the form of visits nationwide to get feedback.
