GEORGE TOWN, Jan 24 (Bernama) — Some 10,000 members of martial arts associations and the public thronged Anjung Times Square here Tuesday night to hear Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s message in conjunction with the “Pendekar 1Malaysia Nite” organised Pertubuhan Seni Silat Lincah Malaysia (PSSLM).

Also present were the prime minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Mahaguru PSSLM Tan Sri Omardin Mauju, Persekutuan Silat Kebangsaan Malaysia (Pesaka) president Datuk Seri Ali Rustam and ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

The event was a showcase of unity of the various martial arts practised in the country as it featured acts by among others exponents of silat, silambam, taekwando and karate.

Najib in his speech said he hoped exponents of martial arts who were mostly youths, would be united in serving the country.

“The exponents who are made up of Malays, Chinese and Indians should not be competing against each other but complement each other under the banner of 1Malaysia,” he said.
